Flamboyant accessory label Missibaba and internationally adored jewellery brand Kirsten Goss recently opened the doors of their exclusive combined boutique in bustling Birdhaven, Johannesburg.

Following a hugely successful joint retail venture in Bree Street, Cape Town, the proudly South African designers decided to join forces once more and open a shared boutique in Johannesburg. “The combination of bold electric Missibaba and finer but equally as captivating KG is positively bang on! People respond well to the space with this dichotomy,“ says Goss. “The pooling of strengths and resources, as opposed to going at it alone, has definitely reinforced both brands powers. It allows you to have a more extensive reach within the market place,” adds Missibaba Business Director Lizel Strydom.

Commenting on the location, Goss was attracted to the area’s quirkiness and sense of community. “It’s a funny looking centre with an old world ‘butcher baker green grocer’ vibe. As a result we like the understated charm coupled with super convenience and an undercurrent of cool stuff on the go,” she explains. The Birdhaven space offered a ‘street side store’ feeling but with the shopping centre security and the added bonus of ample parking.

Each brand has its own space within the shop, creating two distinct areas housed in perfect harmony. The geometric floor, installed by Ultra Flooring, is the store’s key design element and paired with a muted modern base works as a welcoming platform for the kaleidoscope of colour displayed by both brands. The deep plum wall paint colour was specially mixed by Freya Lincoln and is intended to amplify the rainbow like palette of Missibaba leather colours. “We’ve had quails feet claws cast in brass that act as bag hooks. We wanted an interesting, yet slightly off the wall feature that would be delicate enough to showcase the bags without overpowering them, “ explains Missibaba Creative Director Chloe Townsend. Goss offset the store’s modern lines and geometric flooring with an installation if monochrome retro furniture underpinning a cleaner display.

The Birdhaven store offers an array of signature designs from both brands aimed at fashion conscious women with a definitive style. KG fans can expect to find the latest MOD collection as well as a selection of bestsellers from the Arcade and Lifesaver Collective collections. Missibaba will showcase a limited edition collection of Kenyan Hand Beaded bags alongside much loved pieces from the Queendom of Banana and Core Classics collections.

With a joint focus on considered, handcrafted luxury products, this new venture for Goss, Townsend and Strydom is set to be a celebration of South African design and a total delight for all the senses!
