Adebayo Oke-Lawal

Creative director Adebayo Oke-Lawal’s label Orange Culture has been on our radar. The Nigerian based designer brand launched in April 2011 and has since been on a steady rise.

Adebayo has been involved in a broad spectrum in fashion since he began designing at age 10. Last year, he was one of 12 designers nominated into the LVMH Prize Young Fashion Designers competition. The global competition which was launched in November 2013 by Delphine Arnault had ober 1 220 entrants but he was one of the semi-finalists flown to Paris earlier this year to showcase his collection to an exclusive panel whch included Net-a-Porter Founder & CEO Natalie Massenet and Stylist Olivier Rizzo.

Asanda Sizani attended Lagos Fashion & Design Week last year where Orange Culture grabbed the fashion fraternity’s attention with its ecclectic, colour infused collection. Adebayo makes clothes people who just enjoy colours. He says, “The prints, the textures, and the shapes speak for the person wearing it.”

It’s sportwear with a strong African identity. This is an emerging designer to watch from Nigeria’s fashion scene and we cannot wait to see what he does next.
