“Africa’s potential in the global fashion marketplace is only as great as our ability to understand ourselves through our lens of diversity, and stand out,” says Founder and Executive Chairperson of African Fashion International, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe.
With a variety of designers showcasing at AFI Cape Town Fashion Week – from Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cameron, Morocco, and local favourites Maxhosa by Laduma, Imprint and Marianne Fassler – guests will be spoiled for choice!
Africa has always been a source of inspiration for the rest of the wold but the recognition and value created by pan-African designers has been slow to reflect in local and international markets. As the world attempts to grow their appeal on the fastest-growing continent, home-grown creatives have the responsibility to set their own luxury trends.

Condé Nast International Luxury Conference
As major sponsor of the first Luxury Conference held on the continent, AFI is using this platform to elevate the value of African culture and style toward luxury ranks. The host Suzy Menkes, Editor of Vogue International, will be joined by leaders in the global luxury and fashion industry – Marco Bizzari the President and CEO of Gucci, Sylvie Bénard the Environment Director of the LVMH group, Susan Akkad the Senior Vice President of Local and Cultural Innovation at Estée Lauder and others.
The conference will consider Africa’s potential to contribute to the $2.4 trillion global fashion industry, around the theme ‘The Nature of Luxury’. Currently Africa’s contributions remain slight but the talent of our designers – who incorporate rich materials, textures and colours into their craft – holds significant promise for defining global aspirational ideals in the 21st century.
Tickets are still available to attend the conference here
