On Thursday 11 September Spree.co.za, hosted their eagerly awaited Spring/Summer Lookboard 2014 event at the stylish Brundyn Gallery in Cape Town.
The event saw SA fashion royalty out in force, with Spree Boutique designers Marianne Fassler, Malcolm KLûK, Christiaan Gabriël du Toit, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Thula Sindi all in attendance. Guests – including media darlings and well-known celebrities such as Sinazo Mekgwe, Cindy Nell and Vanessa Haywood, sipped Tanqueray cocktails as models posed in Spree’s trend selections for Spring / Summer 2014. “At Spree we always opt for a new way of doing things. By inviting our guests to a curated Lookboard-styled event we offered a ‘Spree’ perspective on the 2014 summer trends,” comments Viljoen.
Fashion Producer Deon Redman and Spree’s Fashion Director Chris Viljoen worked their magic to create a fashion experience that few will forget. Striking models posed on raised plinths against a backdrop of magnificent illuminated white paper flowers – a refreshing departure from traditional runway shows. Guests assumed the role of fashion photographers – forming a paparazzi style crowd around the installation. The assigned hashtag for the evening #SpreeSS2014 soon trended on Twitter, testament to the Spree event’s overwhelming success and impressive digital influence.
Launched in April 2013, Spree inspires online shoppers through beautiful editorial-style lookboards, fashion stories and the Spree journal, making it a destination to visit for SA fashionistas.
Spree’s designer platform Spree Boutique was also launched at the Lookboard event. Spree’s decision to launch Spree Boutique is an exciting highlight in their on-going campaign to support and shine the spotlight on local designers by providing an innovative platform for them to retail online. Expect one-of-a-kind designs and top quality garments by South Africa’s top designers. Spree boutique designers include Thula Sindi, KLûK CGDT, Marianne Fassler and Gert-Johan Coetzee (click on the designers to see more about their labels).
“The South African fashion landscape is one that is as diverse as it is ever evolving; an industry that celebrates beauty, creativity and most of all; the talent that is constantly appearing from all corners of our country. It is with this talent in mind that the Spree Fashion and Buying teams focused on fashion events, appearances, exhibitions and news to select designers from all over South Africa that needed to be showcased and celebrated,” says Chris Viljoen (Spree Fashion Director).
