Passionate about running, cycling and her family.  Pilates Instructor Shanaaz Joseph shares her love for pilates.

When did you develop an interest in pilates?

8 yrs ago when i was pregnant with my 1st born. I saw what it did to my own body, the great pregnancy i had, the  recovery after and how it bettered my running times. I then decided i wanted to share this with other women/men.

With many people planning their holiday, what tips can you give them on keeping fit and healthy

To make good food choices,this is very important.

How important is eating right?

Whatever exercise you do, whether you are doing pilates to get into shape, eating proper nutrients, hydrating and the correct quantity is important.
It helps you exercise for longer and more intensely. Your muscles recovers faster, increases energy levels, maintains a healthy immune system, improves strength and it reduces the risk of injury.

What do you think is the biggest mistake people make when it comes to  sticking with an exercise routine?

I think they should start off realistically, they should start off slow and gradually increase their exercise routine. They should find a gym, instructor or studio close to home.

How do you stay motivated to keep training?

I always set myself goals, because I’m a mom, time management is essential. and I thoroughly enjoy the exercises i do.



How does the body benefit from pilates?

It trains your body as an integrated whole.  It promotes strength, balanced muscle development and flexibility. Improves your posture, strengthens your power house, elongates and strengthens your spine. It promotes correct breathing, calms and centers you.

What is your favourite pilates move?

Side Leg Kick Kneeling is my favourite:it works your serratus anterior, pectoralis major, rectus abdominus, obliques internus and externus, transvers abdominus, adductors, biceps, sartorius.  Its definitely an all rounder.
